Born in Fall River a son of the late Joseph A. and Agnes (Machie) Gauthier he was a longtime resident of Somerset. A proud 2-year veteran of the United States Army and 30-year veteran of the United States Navy, he served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. George was also a longtime member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
A skilled mechanic, he was the manager of the fleets at Shawmut Mills, Coca-Cola and retired from Clean Harbors in 1989. A loving family man, he enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the camaraderie with friends. George enjoyed fishing and playing his harmonica, he was a generous man who loved to laugh.
He is survived by his four children, Debra Soares and her husband Clifford of Fort Pierce, Fl, Susan Colando and her husband Peter of Barrington, RI, Pamela Santos and her partner James Souza of Somerset and George W. Gauthier, Jr. and his wife Maureen of Somerset; one sister, Carol Dias; two brothers, Richard and Louis Gauthier; six grandchildren, Matthew Isadore, George W. Gauthier, III and his wife Cora, Thomas R. Gauthier and his wife Stephanie, Karen Gauthier, Michael Santos and Sarah Colando; six great-grandchildren, Aubree Santos, Xavier DaSilva, Nathan Gauthier, Emily Gauthier, Anthony Isadore and Austin Isadore; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by thirteen siblings.
