Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late James H. and Rose (Lavell) O’Connell, she spent her youth in Fall River graduating from BMC Durfee High School in 1935, and moving to Swansea in 1953.
A homemaker, she was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church,a member and former officer of Our Lady of Fatima Seniors and a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Women’s Guild. In 1990 she received the Marion Medal presented by former Bishop Cronin at St. Mary’s Cathedral. She was also an officer and member of the Swansea Council on Aging.
Surviving: one son : James M. Powers of Swansea and several cousins. She was sister of the late Catherine M. O’Connell.
Her funeral will be held Friday October 29, 2010 at 8:00 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea with a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi, 530 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea. Visiting hours Thursday 4-7 PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fall River.
