Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Berube and Alice (Swain) Berube.
Joseph was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed Commercial Artist and the owner of JB Art Service for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. Joseph was known for having many and varied recreational pursuits. He loved to go out dancing and was an avid fisherman who enjoyed his time on the water. Joseph felt most alive when flying his plane and practicing stalls. Throughout his life, Joseph painted scenic watercolors of New England and devoted much of his free time helping his wife Tamiko with her gardens. A craftsman in his own right, he designed and built a Japanese gazebo, bridge, and fish pond, which were featured in the local newspaper. Joseph was also a ham radio operator and collected trains and toy soldiers.
He is survived by his daughters, Joann Lambert and her husband Richard of Swansea and Diane Berube-Catanzaro and her husband Joe Caron of Barrington, RI; 3 grandchildren, David Bates, Neko Catanzaro and Drew Lambert all of Swansea; 4 siblings, Jeanne Work, Claire Killeen, Thomas Conover and Geri Gulkelberger as well as many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Minkler.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:30 AM in Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held on Saturday, prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 AM. Due to current occupancy restrictions, please be mindful that guests may have to wait outside while others pay their respects. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River to follow.
