
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Bridget (Mullen) Conroy. Margaret graduated summa cum laude from Long Island University and earned a Master of Arts degree in Spanish Literature and Language at Columbia University. She taught Spanish, French and English in New York City and suburban public schools. She always credited her mother, an Irish Catholic immigrant who had known discrimination during the early 1900’s, for instilling in her the value of academic achievement.
In 1967 Margaret moved with her family to Hingham, MA, where she lived for thirty years. She taught Spanish, French and Latin in the Weymouth secondary schools for twelve years, retiring in 1986.
Margaret was a member of the Massachusetts Foreign Language, Massachusetts Teachers’ Associations, and of the LIU Alumni Association. She enjoyed travel, theatre, and listening to classical music.
The widow of Edward F. Hart, Margaret is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Hart, of Warren RI, her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Clare Cavanagh Hart, two grandchildren Megan and Kevin Hart all of Springfield, Illinois and by nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Patrick J Conroy and Mary LaRosa.
Her visitation will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 9:15 to 10:15AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Dominic Church, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea. In lieu of flowers donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to St Dominic’s Building and Maintenance Fund, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea, MA 02777 or to a charity of one’s choice. Private burial.
