Rena Ashook, age 87, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Edward “Champ” Ashook and the heart of her family.
Born in Aley, Lebanon, Rena was the beloved daughter of the late Najib and Anisseh Haddad. Her journey began as a talented dressmaker for Christian Dior in Lebanon, a craft she pursued with elegance and creativity. After moving to the United States, she and her husband Eddie embarked on a lifelong adventure together, opening Rene’s Showcase in Fall River in 1968. For over 40 years, Rena shared her passion for fashion, helping generations of women feel beautiful and confident. She retired in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of artistry and impeccable taste.
Rena had a zest for life that was as vibrant as the fabrics she worked with. She was an incredible host, and her home was always filled with laughter, love, and the irresistible aroma of her legendary Lebanese cooking. Nothing brought her more joy than feeding the people she loved, whether it was a gathering of friends, a church event, or a family dinner, Rena made everyone feel welcome at her table.
She was a proud member of the Calvary United Presbyterian Church and the Lebanese American Women’s Club, where she formed lifelong friendships and gave generously of her time and talents. Rena loved traveling and exploring new places, but her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. Her love for them was boundless, and her stories, hugs, and recipes will live on in their hearts forever.
Rena is survived by her devoted daughters, Mona Khoury and her husband, Michel, of Rehoboth, and Jacqueline Saleh of Ashland, Mass.; her treasured grandchildren, Natasha Khoury of Rehoboth, Madison Khoury of Fall River, and Preston Saleh of Ashland, and her dear sister, Mona Matta of Australia. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her warmth and generosity. Rena was predeceased by husband, her beloved grandson, Julian Saleh and her five siblings, who no doubt greeted her with open arms in heaven.
Rena’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unshakable spirit of generosity. She touched countless lives with her talent, kindness, and unwavering belief in celebrating every moment. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Her memorial visitation will be held Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM –12:45pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM. Interment is private.
