

Born in Lincoln, Illinois, he was the son of the late Harold and Alice (Grubb) Coady.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy and received a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University. He worked at IBM as an engineer for 45 years.
Robert was a member of the Tin Can Sailors as well as the Fall River Elks Lodge #118. He enjoyed telling corny jokes, playing bocce and card games, square dancing with his wife, and was an avid skier.
Robert also delighted in spending quality time with his large family, which included his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He often reminded everyone how loved and important they were to him, and was known for his singular generosity, humor, and warmth. The home he shared with his late wife, Leah, is remembered as a place of comfort and belonging for everyone, no matter who you were.
He is survived by six children: Lisa Coady and her partner Lisa Seelye of Fall River, Rebecca Bradbury and her husband Paul of Middletown, DE, Charlene Moniz and her husband Stephen of Somerset, Robert F. Coady, II and his wife Patricia of Dartmouth, Kimberly Hunt and her husband Jeffrey Zaller of New Bedford, and Erica Carrita and her husband Joe of Swansea; thirteen grandchildren: Shannon, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Erik, Emily, Benjamin, Caroline, Robert, Travis, Mary, Leah, and Avin; ten great-grandchildren: Alesia, Noah, Kylie, Sloane, Caleb, Vanessa, Autumn, Sterling, Paityn, and Londyn; one sister, Ruby Blaker of Mesa, AZ, as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert was the father of the late Pamela Valerio and the brother of the late Dorothy Mines.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest (189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea) followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church (386 Luther Ave., Somerset). Relatives and friends are invited. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 4, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert’s honor may be made to the Southcoast Visiting Nurses Association (200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719).
