
Bill, the son of the late Clement K. and Lillian (Hare) McInnis, was born in Providence on September 5, 1939. He grew up in Riverside; it was there that he married Ellen on May 21, 1960. They lived in Barrington, where they raised their family, for over 30 years before moving to Swansea 14 years ago.
He was a graduate of East Providence High School, SMU-now UMass Dartmouth, Class of 1962 and served in the Coast Guard Reserves. A mechanical engineer, he had a long career with the U.S. Navy’s Naval Undersea Warfare Center, retiring in 1995 after almost 30 years.
Bill had many interests and talents. He was an avid sailor, golfer, cyclist and artist. Over the years, he especially enjoyed painting and woodworking and his home, along with those of his family, are full of his art. Bill was a lifelong learner who always enjoyed the challenge of whatever opportunity arose.

n addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Susan Scribner of Waterbury Center, VT, son James McInnis of Brunswick, ME, brother Steven M. McInnis of Newport, RI, grandchildren Sara, Cecilia, Taylor, Eric and Brandy and many nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Nancy Ann Johnson and brother of the late Marjorie Lembo.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 4-6 PM in the WARING SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Burial private. Contributions in his honor may be made to Southcoast Visiting Nurse Assn., 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
