It is with heavy hearts and a deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Bernard Wade MacDougall, on May 23 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, with his family by his side. Bernie was born to the late Thomas and Elsie (MacIntyre) MacDougall on Oct. 29, 1962 in Neil’s Harbour.
Bernie was well known for his smile and jokes and was a loved member of his North of Smokey community. Always the life of the party he loved spending time with people and was renowned for his humour and compassion. He loved having friends and family around, telling stories, or enjoying a good bonfire. The most important thing in Bernie’s life was his family. A loving husband and a wonderful father to his children Blake and Emily-Jane. He would move the world if he could for them. Bernie found his perfect job, working as a salesman for Thor Global, a job he was passionate about. He was also an avid golfer, winning the Highland Links Championship at 17 years of age.
Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by siblings Thomas & Margaret Bernice (both in infancy), Mary Levy, Christine Coolen and Andy MacDougall.
Bernie is survived by the love of his life, his wife Marilyn, children Blake & Emily-Jane, siblings Diane Ellerbeck, Georgina Furman, Fred, Daniel, Eydie (Lester) Barkhouse, Linda (Arnold) Conrod, Greg (Marlene) MacDougall, Francis & David (Gloria Donovan) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends including his best friend Carson Robinson.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 3pm on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ingonish Beach with Fr. Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. A reception to follow at the Ingonish Fire Hall. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com.
