Daniel S MacNeil

19 September, 193410 February, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we regret to announce the sudden death of our dad Dan at the age of 86 years on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021 at home (Alex Capstick Manor) Dingwall. Born on September 19, 1934 to Joseph L and Mary Ellen (Fitzgerald) MacNeil. Dan is survived by his brothers Joseph, Ontario and Delano (Penny), Alberta, sisters Patsy, NB, Gaye (Raymond) Dingwall, children Danita (Richard), Ontario, Jo-Anne and Dana (Sheila), grandchildren Ryan (Leanne), Alberta, Hailey and Teah, great grandson Nolan as well as nieces and nephews including special niece Tanya and grandnephew Mitchell who he was very proud of. Besides his parents, Dan is predeceased by grandson Ashley and niece Melanie. Dad worked several jobs during his life. He was a welder, heavy waterplant machine operator. He worked for Austin Dowling Construction and drove truck for Irving Oil. In his later years he was manager for National Sea Products “Wharf” Dingwall. Dad was a groomer “volunteer” for Highland Nordic Ski Club for many years. He loved to go out early in the morning and get the trails ready. As he stated many times, “I do it for the kids and enjoy watching them ski, especially the Jack Rabbits.” Dad enjoyed playing sports in his younger years, hockey, baseball, downhill and cross country skiing. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, seekword puzzles and watching his favorite TV show Three’s Company, which he watched over and over. He loved to have a good meal at a restaurant, especially breakfast, or one of the many great meals and a glass of wine at his sister Gaye’s. Special thank you to Dean Barron who was there for help and support at such a tramatic time. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Church in Dingwall. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting

Dan would be a half-cousin of ours...his father was our mom's half bro. ..Mary Jane MacNeil. (We lived in Aspy Bay for all our youth and dad worked the quarry with Joseph L.
I did share an earlier career choice with Patsy in the '60s)
My prayers and condolences to Dan's family and siblings in this big loss. I did not know Dan, regrettably, but am happy to sense he lived a big, jolly and long life.
Prayers for your comfort and peace.

When I think about my grandparents and who I always identified the most to, it was my Grampy MacNeil. From his love for Hockey and breakfasts, an ability to show emotion, whether crying at something beautiful or unfortunately getting just a little too angry over something that probably wasn’t worth it, it’s me to the letter. I always think fondly of Grampy when I think, who will I be as I get older.

As with all of my grandparents I truly am sad about not getting to be closer to them my whole life, it’s a regret I’ll carry. But I’m glad he got to meet my son Nolan, his first Great grand child and for that I’m grateful. But I can’t help but wish he could’ve seen him skate for the first time, something he mentioned when my uncle Dana showed a video of him a few months ago.

Not a breakfast will go by that I won’t think of him. I love you so much and will miss you terribly.

Dan was the most caring man I knew. He was one of a kind and helped out whenever he could at no cost . when my husband was in Ontario I ran out of oil and I called Dan and told him my situation as i had 3 children and one on the way. I t was no more than an hour he showed up filled my tank and told me not to worry about paying. The next week i got my money from my husband (who dan knew as well) as he was from Neils Harbour and I called him and he said keep it I will be by next week and i will stop in.He was a sincere condolences go out to Danita(Richard) and all the rest of his family an d friends. I am sorry to hear about Dan’s passing. I worked with your Dad at National Sea Products Ltd. for several years and since then always enjoyed our little chats when I’d see him at the Post Office or store. Dan was one of a kind! Rest In Peace my Friend.
