OBITUARY

Ellen MacKinnon

20 October, 192021 January, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Ellen MacKinnon on January 21, 2021, in her 100th year at Highland Manor, Neils Harbour. Mom was born in Edwardsville to Lambert & Katie (Lewis) Matthews on October 20, 1920. Mom moved to South Harbour when she married her sweetheart Ernest MacKinnon in 1946. Sadly she was widowed 12 years later. She remained in South Harbour where she raised her 4 children in a loving, happy home. Mom was a strong woman, who overcame many adversities and had a positive impact on the many lives that she touched. Family was everything to mom and nothing made her happier than company. Mom was much loved and will be sadly missed by all of us. Besides our dad and her parents, mom was predeceased by brothers Murray (Mary), Violet Ashe (Herb), Joe (Dorothy), stepsister Gertie Lewis (Wes) and brother-in-law Johnny (Emma) MacKinnon. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Floyd (Jean), Guy, Austine (Richard) and Linda, grandchildren Jamie, Roger, Darryl, Michelle, Samantha, Laura Lee, Kim, Nick, Leigh Jai and Raychelle, 12 great grandchildren. Also left behind are 9 nieces and 12 nephews. She was predeceased by 2 nieces and 2 nephews. There are no words that can tell how much we appreciate the doctors and staff at Highland Manor and at Buchanan Memorial Hospital for the love and care Mom received. They all went above and beyond. Cremation has taken place. The arrangements are in the trusted hands of Fillmore and Whitman, Sydney Mines. A funeral will be held at a later date. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com.

She was one of the sweetest ladies I've have ever meet as a young kid when visiting her with my Dad and Mom .She always had a smile, cup tea and sweets ready for you. As I became a CCA I had honor of visiting this beautiful sole day and night in her own home .Where spent alot time taking about her past and all fun stories she tell about her being a kid and how the times have changed over the years. She will forever be in my Heart along with so many others.RIP Dear Angel Ellen.

There will never be another woman like Aunt Ellen. Our sincere condolences to all of her immediate family and friends. We were very blessed to have this special lady as family. Whenever we were down to Cape Breton it was a given that there was a day set aside to visit with Aunt Ellen. At her home you would be invited to sign her book, eat at her table and reminisce about times long ago. Living a simple dignified life, she was always full of humour and honesty. We will miss her phone calls, cards and visits. I can only hope that she knew how really special she was to so many.
