It is with deep sorrow that we, Samantha and Russell White, announce the peaceful passing of our amazing dad James Kevin Reid (68) on September 10th at Hospice Cape Breton, surrounded by loved ones. Kevin was born in North Sydney to the late Hepburn and Doris (Clarke) Reid. Kevin spent his career working for Woolco and then Walmart Canada in the Sydney River store retiring after 44 years of service. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Kevin knew of his kind unassuming nature and his willingness to help others. Kevin loved traveling over the years and especially on his trip to Scotland with Russell 1 year ago. A trip that he only dreamed about. He also enjoyed his years camping at Driftwood campground where he made many friends. Kevin was years ahead of his time in the technology field and loved building and working on computers. Family and friends will now need a new tech guru. A lover of movies and especially his Christmas favorite the “Grinch”. Kevin also enjoyed his time as a resident of the Pitt St Seniors complex in Sydney Mines. Kevin is survived by us his children Russell and Samantha White, our mother, his best friend and go-to person Florence (Clarke) Reid who was by his side throughout his brief illness. Their friendship, respect and admiration for each other was evident every day. He is also survived by sister Debbie (Sandy) Bell, Brother Jackie (Bev) Reid and sister-in-law Marion and Allison. He is also survived by his fur babies Bella and Benny who brought much joy to him throughout the years and especially in his final days. Also surviving is his mother-in-law Margaret Clarke and Father-in-law Edgar (Donelda) Clarke and by brothers-in- law Cecil (Kyle), Robert, Rannie and sister-in-law Brenda (Marcel) Landry. As well as his many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Kevin.
Besides his parents, Kevin was predeceased by his sister Brenda, brothers Reggie, Charlie, Tommy, sister-in-law Wendy, niece Alecia and nephew Tyler.
We, the family, would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Hospice Cape Breton for the care, love and kindness shown to us during this difficult time. Words cannot express our true appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Anne Frances D’Intino.
Special thanks to Rev. Stephen Mills, St. Matthew Wesley United Church and Pastor Cameron Johnson, Seventh Day Adventist Church, for your pastoral visits and prayers.
As per Kevin’s wishes cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held Saturday, September 13th, 3pm, Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 8 Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines.
A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8 to share in refreshments and fond memories.
In lieu of flowers, do what Kevin would do; help a friend, a family member or a stranger. The memories of his kindness will live on forever. Memorials can be made to Hospice Cape Breton.
