In the early hours of February 16, 2025 our Mom left this world. It is with a great sense of loss and sadness we announce the passing of Mary Geraldine (Doucette) Doyle of Ingonish. Although we will miss her immensly we take comfort in knowing she will be reunited with her husband Albert and son Stephen.
Mom was born on March 24, 1937 on what is now the 11th hole of the CBHNP Golf Course. She shared her special day with her twin brother Joseph. Life, as well as her parents, Lucy and Thomas Leo, taught mom the value of hard work and we will be forever grateful for the fact she passed it along to us. Both Mom and Dad worked hard to provide for their 6 children, they were a team that took that job seriously. Feeding 6 children, keeping them warm and loved was no easy task but they excelled in every way. We walked to midnight mass when there was no other way there but coming home to hot Rabbit Pie and being able to open 1 gift before bed made it all worthwhile. Many nights mom sat up and knit a new pair of mittens to replace what the dog ran off with as we were sliding down grandmother's hill.
Mom was the last of her family, predeceased by her mother and father Thomas Leo & Lucy, her sisters Jean, Rose, Frances and Leona, brothers Tommy, Buddy and Joe. her husband Albert as well as son Stephen.
She is survived by her son Barry (Jenice), daughters Rose Westbury, Grace (Doug) Arsenault, Carol (Barry) MacLean and Louise (Tony) Fitzgerald, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was given a second lease on life when health issues meant she could no longer live alone anymore. She left the home she & dad built and the sadness of loss and moved to the Northside Guest Home, where she found a loving and caring new family, Pat, Raylene, Diane, Linda, Cory and numerous staff made mom their new grandmother and Bonnie found a new friend and TV bestie. Mom loved them all. We will never forget their genuine love for mom.
Cremation has taken place and the Celebration of life is set for May 10th at 11:00am in Ingonish at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting fillmoreandwhitman.com. Please honour mom by doing a small act of kindness for someone. A smile can brighten a day more than we realize, flowers fade faster than a beautiful smile or gesture.
