

It is with a sad heart that we, the family, announce the passing of Maude Bailey, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother to Emma, Nicolas and Sophie; sister to Mary Lou Fraser and Tommy, aunt and friend, on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at the age of 80. Born in Baddeck on 19 June 1945, Maude was the daughter of Neil F and Lena Patterson who became residents of Millville. Maude was an educator (elementary) who graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers College and first taught in Florence Elementary. Sixty years ago, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Bailey, from Sydney Mines who joined the Air Force and they travelled the world for 35 years, he serving and she teaching, and having two daughters born abroad, Michele in France and Suzanne in Germany. Recently, after moving home to Bras D’Or, she was very active in the Anglican Church, Sydney Mines and the Northside Side Historical Society (the Train Station Museum and the Fossil Center ). She was active in every community Lloyd’s postings took them. Having taught in Kuwait for fifteen years she is well known for her dedicated work ethic and guidance in elementary school. Maude loved to read, write and travel. She and Lloyd visited over 60 countries together and she was always busy planning their next trip. A graveside service is planned for Thursday, September 4 at 3:30 p.m. (15.30 hrs) at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Trinity Anglican Church Sydney Mines.
