It is with broken hearts, deep sorrow and wonderful memories that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife, Melena Ruby (King) Rea on October 2, 2026 at Miners Memorial Manor, in Sydney Mines. Born in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Veronica (King) Peddle and Roderick King. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her youngest son Vernon MacIntyre (2013) whom she missed terribly, her brother George King, sisters Jean Ramsey and Audrey Ferguson.
Melena will be forever loved and sadly missed by her devoted husband, best friend and soulmate Alan N. Rea, son Paul (Laurie) MacIntyre, Guelph On, Grandchildren Adam (Niki), Amy (Lucas), Sean, Great grandchildren Liam, Dennis and Noah. She is also survived by stepson Michael Rea (Kim) of Woodstock On and step grandchildren Joshua and Aiden.
In her early years Melena moved to Ontario with her two sons where she acquired a clerical position and worked there for twenty-three years. Later on she met and married the love of her life, Alan. Together they decided to move to Cape Breton where they built their dream home on their little piece of paradise on the Bras d'Or Lake and operated a B&B. There she enjoyed interacting with guests and hearing their many interesting stories. She also worked with Alan operating their business, King-Rea Electrical Sales and met many wonderful people along the way.
Melena took great pride in knitting, crocheting, baking and cooking for family and friends. She also enjoyed golfing, skiing, swimming, hiking, traveling and entertaining family and friends who came to visit. There was nothing that she could not do and not enough hours in a day in which to do it.
In honouring Melena's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family committal will occur in Ontario at a later date.
