Miriam Rose Ferguson

With broken hearts we regret to announce the passing of Miriam Rose Ferguson on Sunday, September 13th, 2026 at Alderwood Guest Home, Baddeck, NS. Miriam was the daughter of William (Bill) Gear and Florence (Cadwell) Marks, and step-father Alex "Biggie" Marks.

Miriam leaves behind her daughter Sherri Lynn of Sydney Mines, sister Alice Brown of Margaree Centre, brother Alexander Marks (Mary) of Little Pond, step-sister Florence Cadwell of Halifax, sister's-in-law Maddy Ferguson, Sandra and Thelma Gear, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins, her aunt Vinnie Marks of Florence, and special life long friend, Charlotte MacInnis of Groves Point.

Miriam was predeceased by her parents William (Bill) Gear, mother Florence (Cadwell) Marks and step-father Alex "Biggie" Marks., as well as her husband, William (Billy) Ferguson. Also, brothers Henry and Stanley Gear, sisters and brother-in-law May and Dock Dowling, Eleanor and Fred Patterson, Buddy Ferguson and John Brown of Margaree Centre.

Miriam had a longstanding career with the Royal Bank in Sydney Mines. Her favorite hobby was playing bingo with her daughter Sherri Lynn and friends. Miriam had a special place in her heart for her former dog Holly.

The family wishes to acknowledge special thanks to Miriam's extended family at Alderwood Guest Home in Baddeck, NS where she had resided for the past 6 years. The love and care for Miriam was beyond exceptional.

Also heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care Miriam received.

There will be a visitation from 11- 1pm on Monday September 21, 2026 followed by the funeral service at 1 pm. Both are being held at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home , 8 Clyde Ave Sydney Mines, NS.
