It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend Sheldon Francis Erickson, who passed away on December 16, 2022 at the Harbourview Facility in Sydney Mines. Sheldon was born on December 8, 1934 to the late Frank and Mary (MacKenzie) Erickson. Sheldon worked for many years as a mechanic. When he retired from wrenching, he pursued his true passion and took up lobster fishing on his boat the Breton Pride. Throughout his life, he was always involved in his community, whether on the Board of Manager’s or singing in the choir at Clyde Baptist Church, serving his brothers at the Royal Oak Lodge #85, where he was a member for 48 years and also served as past Grandmaster, founding and serving on the Point Aconi Development Association or participating in the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Men’s group, Sheldon remained actively involved.
Sheldon will be deeply missed by his 3 sons Sheldon (Carolyn), Scott (Edna) and Stephen (Michelle). His cherished grandchildren Tony, Nickolas and Jensen will fondly remember his words of wisdom “You need some new jeans”. “I think you need a haircut”. “You need to have a good job.” He will also be missed by his sister Beverley (James) MacMullin, sister-in-law Christina Erickson, his very special friend Lillian Gillan and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Besides his parents, Sheldon was predeceased by his wife Isabel, daughter-in-law Wendy Erickson and 2 brothers Bill and Ron.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 20, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 8 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Brian Barron officiating. Interment to follow in Point Aconi Cemetery.
