July 12,1924 – September 14, 2025
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our dear mother at the age of 101. She was born in Sugar Loaf, moved to Dingwall after she was married, lived in the Alex Capstick Manor from 1998 -2021 and then the Highland Manor Nursing Home where she passed.
Stella was a member of the Aspy Bay United Church, Eastern Star, Friends of the Veterans, Cape North Hospital Auxiliary, Cape Breton Historical Society, John Cabot Society and Progressive Conservative Party (proud active member!) She was a devoted wife and stay at home Mom. She always baked and cooked, giving meals to so many people. You didn’t leave her home without lunch and cup of tea. She was so kind, always giving to family and friends, doing many acts of kindness. She worked hard helping others. She loved playing cards (auction) with her family and special friends.
She is survived by children, Linda Burton, Dingwall, Gary (Nancy), Worcester, MA, Gregg (Anne Marie), Dingwall; grandchildren, Richard Burton, David Hansen, Jason (Erin) Capstick, Ryan (Danielle) Capstick, and Sarah Capstick; great grandchildren, Brent Wagner, Taylor (Haley) Hardy, Alec (Meagan) Capstick, Ashton Capstick; great great granddaughter, Ellie Rose Hardy; sisters, Carol MacInnis, Sandra Dowling and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband, Alex J. Capstick, parents, Alex and Christine Wilkie; daughters Hazel Hansen and Krisha Capstick; grandchildren, Robert Hansen, Scott Burton; sister Mildren Gwynn; brothers, Gifford and Harold Wilkie; son in law, Cryril Burton.
We would like to thank all the staff at the Highland Manor Nursing Home for their wonderful and considerate care. You are truly special, and we will be forever grateful. We would also like to thank the Homecare Workers who helped mom when she lived at the Alex Capstick Manor. She would not have been able to stay there if it had not been for your help.
Visitation will be at St. Joseph Church, Dingwall on Friday, September 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 with Fr. Jonas Uwaezuoke officiating and with the presence of the United Minister, Rev. Heather Cronhelm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to the Aspy Bay Cemetery or St. Joseph Cemetery, Dingwall. Words of comfort can be sent to her family by visiting fillmoreandwhitman.com
