It is with sadness that the family of Alfred MacNeil announce his unexpected passing on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital at 81 years of age.
Predeceased by his parents John R and Mary Jane (MacLean) and brothers: Leo , Roy and Howard, Alfie is survived by his beloved wife Deanna, his daughters Laureen (Bob Kerr), Gail (Rob) Gromick and Verna; grandchildren Sarah (Graham) and Morgan (Bianca), great grandchildren Zander and Ava, sister Jessie MacNeil, sisters-in-law: Margie (Leo) and Margie (Howard) as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives including his cousin's Sadie and Stacey.
Alfie was involved in his community throughout his life. He was a school teacher who taught Industrial Arts in Cape Breton for 38 years and then upon retirement went to work at the family barber shop. He was an active member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish and sat on numerous committees, most notably the cemetery committee. He was a longtime member of both the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #12 as well as Route 223 (Iona) Forestry.
Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00am on Friday at Our Lady of Fatima with Fr. Bill Burke officiating.
