It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Americo David (Rick) Giacomini, a beloved husband, father, poppy, brother and friend to all. He passed away on Saturday December 25, 2010 at home with his beloved and devoted wife and children by his side after a four year courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Irma and the late Americo “Porky” Giacomini. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1964, where he travelled and made long lasting friendships along the way. He returned home to Cape Breton in 1992 and retired from the military in 2004. Rick was a member of the Ashby Legion. He was known for his great sense of humor and wittiness, as well as lending a helping hand to others. Rick was happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends, working in his garden, or fixing and building things in his garage. Besides his mother, he is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Sharon Ann (Aboud) who was always by his side, daughter, Karen (Frank) Zochil, Ontario, son, David (Lisa), Alberta. Rick also leaves behind what were his most precious gifts, his two grandchildren, Alexander and Olivia Zochil, whom he loved very dearly, sisters, Enis (Gordie) Moss, Carolyn (Wayne) Cann, Maria (Buddy MacLean) all of Sydney, brothers, Nick (Dorothy), Ontario and Ron, Sydney.
