Andrew Joseph Stevens, 75 of 4248 Shore Road, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Whycocomagh, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary Julia (Bernard) Stevens.
He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni and a long time member of the Grand Council. Andrew was involved for over 30 years with the St. Anne deBeaupré Pilgrimage and served for almost 40 years as an usher as well as serving many years on church council. He was a Band Councilor for several years. He worked as a school bus driver for many years. Andrew was a person who set an example for all his community to aspire to.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, the former Dorothy Sylliboy, daughters Mary Noella (Floyd) Marshall; Donna Stevens; Martha V. Stevens; Regina Stevens; Alexsanderine Stevens (Riley); Shelly Stevens; Anjelikah Stevens, all of Eskasoni; sons Andrew Jr. (Kim), Niagara Falls; Frankie (Jessie); Raymond (late Betty); Allister (Keena); Norman; Bobby (Liz), all of Eskasoni; sisters Sarah (Abraham) Doucette; Mary Ann Stevens, both of Eskasoni; Mary Catherine Indrado, Boston; brother Peter Stevens, Eskasoni and by numerous grand and great grandchildren and several godchildren.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter Shellena Olivia Stevens, a sister Alexsanderine in infancy and a grandson Joseph in infancy.
Visitation for Mr. Stevens will take place at his residence, 4248 Shore Rd. Eskasoni after 7 p.m. (today) Saturday. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 am at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
