Born July 5, 1937 at Houlton, Maine, Annie was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Nancy (Morris) Sylliboy. Her early childhood years were spent in Maine before the family moved to Eskasoni, N.S. in 1947.
Annie graduated high school at St. Joseph’s Convent, Mabou, N.S. and college at Mount St. Bernard’s, Antigonish, N.S. She then moved to Toronto, Onatrio, then to Cleveland, Ohio and back to Toronto where she worked for various insurance companies.
On her return to Eskasoni, she met the love of her life, George Fidelis Paul, at a dance. A year later, they got married and they lived in Sydney where she worked for Burchill Insurance. After several years, the family moved to Eskasoni where she worked and retired from the Social Development Department at Eskasoni First Nation.
Annie’s hobbies included knitting and crocheting; and she had a love for nature including feeding wild birds in winter; she always had treats for the family dogs and enjoyed receiving visitors. She had online friends from Tennessee, Ohio, and Florida- Pauline, Cherie, Sharon, Kimberly and Dorothy- many of whom she met. Before George’s passing, they traveled to St. Anne DeBeaupre in Quebec, Toronto and the Maritimes, especially for fiddling concerts. They also traveled to Maine where she used to live. Before her illness, she and Barbara would often take local day trips, sometimes ending up in unknown places. They loved to explore.
Annie is survived by siblings Benjamin Sylliboy Jr., Eskasoni, and Barbara MacDonald (James), Blacketts Lake, sons Brian (Serena) and Wayne (late Elizabeth); grandchildren Brianna, Rebecca, Isabella, Brian Jr., Paulina, Eric and Lyndon, great grandchildren Connor and Fabian, special friend Madonna Johnson, nephew Daniel, sister in law Mary Carmel Mellen, of Chapel Island.
