We are saddened to announce the passing of Donald Archibald "Archie" MacDonald, 81, of Sydney, on July 8, 2023 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. He died peacefully with his beloved wife, Carolyn, by his side.
Archie was born on July 29, 1941 to Donald and Sadie MacDonald in Creignish. He grew up in Sydney. Archie was best known for his career driving his own truck for ESSO Home Fuels. He was an avid supporter of local teams including Sooners, Oilers and Eagles.
Archie and Carolyn had two children, Craig (Sherri) who have Ollie and Chad (Vanessa) who have Cooper. Archie had close connections with his nephew Dave Burke (Donna) and nieces Leslie Shepard (Kirk) and Susan Burke (Jim). He also considered their children to be his grandchildren: David, Hannah, Andrew and Matthew Burke, Kirk Jr. and Trent Shepard. Also Robbie Coleman and his children Lindsay and Taylor.
Archie is predeceased by his sisters Jean (Dave) Burke and Cecilia (Earl) Coleman. Archie is survived by many relatives, friends and in-laws, too numerous to count.
Archie was a faithful member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys' parish where he volunteered for many church activities and he volunteered at Loaves and Fishes for over 15+ years.
A visitation will be held on the 3rd Floor at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney on July 12, 2023 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm with a Funeral Mass at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys church, 40 Cabot St., on July 13, 2023 at 11:00 am with Fr. Bill Burke officiating.
