Sister Maureen Baldwin CND passed away in Toronto, ON on June 6, 2025. She passed peacefully with siblings by her side. She was born in Sydney, NS on Dec. 17, 1963 and was the youngest child of the late Joseph and Martinia (Gillis) Baldwin.
Maureen is survived by her devoted family members whom she cherished. Brothers and sisters, Carmen (Mike) MacNeil, Greg (Evelyn) Baldwin, Bobby (Margaret - deceased) Baldwin, Gerard (Susan) Baldwin, Joan (David) Ranni, Michael (Dolores) Baldwin, Mary (Brian) Campbell, Evelyn (Blair) MacSween. She is also survived by her aunt Sadie (Allan) MacNeil, aunt Thersa (Rannie - deceased), Peggy (Roddie) Gillis as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews whom she cherished. Maureen's love for family and her genuine interest in their well being fostered the closeness she maintained with them throughout her life. Maureen will also be missed and fondly remembered by her CND friends and associates particularly Sister Virginia Sullivan CND.
Growing up on Dominion Street, Maureen's uncle Ranni and his family lived in close proximity. It was like one big extended family which formed a special bond which still exists to today. Maureen spent her summers at the Grand Mira South bungalow, where she enjoyed spending time with family. It should be mentioned here that she enjoyed music, played the guitar and sang. At the end of each summer, it concluded with the Mira games weekend on Labour Day.
Maureen was a sister of the Congregation of Notre Dame for 37 years and lived faithfully the CND charism of liberating education in a variety of settings. She began as an elementary school teacher in New Brunswick and in later years, after receiving her Doctor of Ministry Degree, she served as the Director of the Master of Divinity Programs at Regis College in Toronto. Maureen thoroughly enjoyed her interactions with students of all ages and made learning an experience of discovery and personal transformation.
Visitation will take place on Friday, June 13 from 7 until 9pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., with a Funeral Mass being held at 9am on Saturday, June 14th at Holy Redeemer Church, 1135 Victoria Road with Fr. Paul Murphy celebrant. Inturnment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting twcurry.com.
