Catherine Bungay, 80, our beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 24th 2018.
Catherine was born on October 15th 1937, in Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia to Nora and Andrew MacDonald. She married Art Reilly in August 1958. Together, they raised 3 children (Brian, Brenda, Tim) in Ashby amongst countless loving family members, friends and neighbours. Catherine worked and retired from the Cape Breton Regional School Board. Catherine and Bill married in November 1986 and were very active square dancers, skaters and dedicated members of the Sydney Pensioners Club. She took great pleasure creating wonderful memories with family and grandkids at the cottage on the Bras D’or Lakes.
Catherine is survived by her son, Brian (Cheryl) Reilly Saskatoon, children Moira and James. Daughter, Brenda (Stephen) Brown, Sydney River, children Reilly, Corey and Kasey. Son, Tim (Jackie) Reilly, Bedford, children Bridgid, Liam, Owen, Ethan, Jack and Julia. Second husband, William Bungay and his son, David (Charlene) Sydney, grand-daughter Samantha and son Doug (Richard), Halifax. Brothers, Vince, Charlie, John “Dicker”, wife Joanne and Nick. Sister, Helen Gallant, husband Gerald “Bucky”.
Catherine is predeceased by her first husband Art Reilly. Brothers, Jim and Joe. Sisters, Anne, Theresa and Evie.
Catherine took great pride as a devoted mother and grandmother. Ever present at all her family’s activities and events. Famous for her blueberry muffins, and tea biscuits, she was quick to turn on her oven during a time of need. She kept herself busy in the garden, going for walks, volunteering with the CWL, luncheons with the Pier Dears, but most importantly planning her outfit for the next social event (don’t forget the lipstick!). We will always remember the time spent having a good chat over a cup of tea.
Visitation will be held at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday June 28th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday June 29th at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church.
