It is with deepest regrets and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, Catherine Dawson, 86 of Sydney, formerly of Royal Avenue, Sydney on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Deveaux) Driscoll.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Sydney, Branch 12, Royal Canadian Legion and the Mixed Dart League. She was a devoted Catholic and when unable to attend church, she watched Mass For Shut-Ins.
Catherine is survived by 6 daughters Mary MacDonald, Joan (Stephen) MacLean, Marlene Dawson (Barry), Gloria (Percy) Cantwell, all of Sydney; Debbie (David) Connors, New Waterford; Elaine (George) LeBlanc, Quispamsis, NB; 2 sons Ken, Dieppe, NB; Dennis (Bonnie), Kitchener, ON; 4 sisters Joyce (Ken) Wolstenholme, Theresa McSavaney, both of Kitchener, ON; Sophie Peters, Inverhuron, ON; Tillie Mercer, Glace Bay; brother, Michael (Pat) Driscoll, Kitchener, ON; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Shirley Driscoll, Mary Dawson, Jenny O’Callaghan Pearl Dawson and Marg Doucet.
She was predeceased by her husband Nick in 1979, brothers George, Albert, Tom and sister Mary.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Dawson will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
