It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our mother, grandmother and dear friend, Cecilia Lahey on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Cove Guest Home with her loving family by her side.
Born in Leitches Creek on October 28, 1928 she was the daughter of the late John Charles and Margaret Matilda (Roach) MacIsaac.
Mom is survived by her children - Sharon Columbus, Michele (William Gatward), Colleen, Donna MacNeil (Glenn), Gregory (Lynn), Michael (Joan) and Cecilia Marie Flynn (Paul Roberts). Mom is also survived by her chosen daughter, Jane LaRusic (Sid). She is survived by 16 grandchildren, Erin Doyle (Jason), Lauren Columbus, Jeffrey Columbus (Jody), William Gatward, Sophie Gatward, Stephan Harris, Robert Harris, Sara MacNeil, Parker MacNeil, Melanie Lahey, Allison Lahey (Brandon Wilson), Colleen Lahey (Mikael Desjardins) Sherril DelVecchio, Adam Flynn, Merrill Flynn and Maggie Flynn. Also three great grandchildren, Briony Doyle, Donovan Doyle and Avery Phillips. Also surviving are Mom’s brother Martin MacIsaac (Peggy), North Sydney and sister Patricia Clark, Sydney Mines, sisters-in-law, Kaye Clutsam, Tennessee, Vera MacIsaac, Ontario, Kay MacIsaac, Prince Edward Island. Mom is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her as well. Mom will be dearly missed by her very close and dear friend Pauline Ferguson (late James Ferguson).
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Michael Lahey, her son-in-law Jack Columbus and by sisters, Ellen Arthur, Elizabeth Harrie, Mildred MacIsaac, Kathleen Aikens, Sara MacIsaac, Jenny Mull, and Thelma Doyle; by brothers Stephen MacIsaac, Henry MacIsaac and Charles MacIsaac.
Mom loved to knit with many of her sweaters still being worn by her family and friends.
She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and loved to cook and bake for her family. She was a wonderful mother whose main concern in life was her family and their happiness. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mom was a faithful member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney, Nova Scotia for many years and had a real devotion to St. Theresa. Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with Requiem Mass being held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Theresa’s Church with Father Dennis Lamey officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
We would like to thank the staff and administration of the Cove Guest Home for the wonderful care and love they gave to Mom over the last nine months. In spite of Mom’s illness, she made many friends and had happy times during her stay at the Cove. Donations can be made to the Cove Guest Home or a charity of one’s choice.
