It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Cecilia MacDougall, age 68, on April 17th, 2021, surrounded by her family. Christine Bell once wrote “Nurses are there when the first breath is taken, and nurses are there when the last breath is taken. Although it is more enjoyable to celebrate the birth, it is just as important to comfort in death.” These words express the life of our loving mother and Nana so well, as her career was spent caring for others in all stages of their life as an LPN.

Born in Sydney, Cecilia was the daughter of Raymond and Loretta (Corbett) Muise. Her career was spent caring for others both at St. Rita’s Hospital, and then for many years at the CB Regional Hospital, where she worked primarily on 4A. As part of her work, Cecilia made a difference in the lives of so many, helping them through both celebratory and difficult times. She had a way of bringing out the best in others through a smile and her kindness. Among her coworkers she also made many lifelong friends. Cecilia was a wonderful mother, always there for her children. She had a great sense of humour, and loved a good laugh, or a good tease by her beloved grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her, and her favorite pastime was to spend days in Iona, surrounded by first her children, and then her grandchildren, as the family grew. Her happiest moments were when she could relax with her family all around her, and of course take constant photos to preserve each moment.

Cecilia is survived by her children: Shaun (Alana MacLeod) MacDougall, Jason (Michelle Ongo) MacDougall, and Jennifer (Terry Mulley) MacDougall, as well as her “second daughter” Shelly Brookman. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Hunter, Jeremy, JJ, Luca, Brennan, Brianna, Mya and Emmett. She was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Loretta, her beloved twin Amelia Moore, and daughter-in-law Joanne Pyke.

The family would like to thank Dawn McLaine, and the staff of 4C at the CB Regional Hospital, for their compassionate care of Cecilia. We are particularly grateful for the efforts of the staff of Palliative Care, and Donnie Campbell in creating a beautiful celebration in advance of Cecilia’s 69th birthday.

A visitation open to the public will be held on Thursday, April 22 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel from 12 until 2pm. Due to Covid, a Private family gathering will take place. Those wishing may join via the livestream which will be hosted on TW Curry’s facebook page starting at 4pm on Thursday, April 22. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting

Joan and Margaret Muise

To Cecila's family:

We are so sorry to learn of Cecilia's passing. The last time we saw her Mom (Margaret) thought that she looked so wonderful and was sure to tell her.

We are very sorry for your loss, especially at this most difficult time.

Joan says: because of our age difference, and moving to Halifax at a young age, I didn't know Cecilia very well, but every time we met, she was so kind, and generous. Like a human Hug.

God Bless, Cousin Joan and Aunt Marg

Sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. I grew up living close to Cecilia and Amelia and in later years she moved across the street from me on Cabot Street. She was a wonderful, caring neighbour. I enjoyed always connecting with her. Deepest sympathy Dianne Colford MacAskill

I am from Lorne Street and went to school with the twins and I think of those times fondly. We had many a laugh with those two. Your Mom was always a great friend. I will keep her memory in my thoughts tomorrow. God Bless.
