We regret to announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Christena Pauline MacDonald, 91 of Coxheath. As she wished Christena passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Born in Shenacadie she was the daughter of the late Michael and Sarah (MacAdam) MacKinnon.
Christena took great pride in her Scottish heritage, travelling to Scotland several times to trace her roots. She was a fluent Gaelic speaker and former member of the Gaelic Society. She loved spending time “up the country” (at Shenacadie). Christena was a very religious woman devoted to her Catholic faith and St. Anne de Beaupre. She enjoyed cooking for others, especially her cherished granddaughter Emily. Mom was happiest surrounded by all her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gardening and planting flowers was always a favorite pastime.
She is survived by her loving children, Eugene, Coxheath, Mary (Louis) Digout, River Bourgeois and Irene (Peter) Long, Coxheath; cherished grandchildren, Suzanne (Ken) Miles, Michael (Shannon) Long, Stephen (Jill) Long, Emily Long, Louis Digout, Jackie Digout and Mark Digout; great grandchildren, Christina, Sarah, Kaitlyn Miles, Mikie, Rhiannon, Xander Long.
Christena was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene; son, John; sisters, Mary and Elizabeth and brothers, Neil and Rannie.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul Murphy, for his many years of compassionate care to our mother.
Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 16 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River. Rev. Duaine Devereaux will officiate. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
