She was raised in the small community of Balls Creek and was very proud of the Ball heritage within the community. Mom was known as the local historian and many people near and from afar, would contact her to gather genealogical history and facts from mom’s detailed research and keen memory.
In younger years mom was employed as medical stenographer for several Northside physicians. She also served as a commissionaire with the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission for five years. Being a body of strong faith, she gave of her time and talents to the ACW and served as past president of the St. Marks Anglican Women’s Guild and the Cape Breton Regional ACW. Mom was a devoted Monarchist her entire life. A common tradition on Christmas Day was listening to the Queen’s Christmas message, and Clara was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth 25th Jubilee Medal.
