It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Ward on Jan. 25, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a short illness. Born in Sydney on July 1st, 1948 to the late William and Margaret (Curry) Ward. He is survived by his sister Carol, brother-in-law Ernie as well as their children Scott (Jen), Mark and Jennifer.
Besides his parents, Donald is also predeceased by his brother Rev. Gerald Curry SFM.
Donnie worked at the McConnell Library for 35 years as a reference librarian. He guided many new employees into the profession and easily became fast friends with co-workers and patrons alike. All appreciated and enjoyed his professionalism, quick wit and sharp mind. His extensive knowledge of local history was a great asset and in retirement he volunteered with the Old Sydney Society.
Donnie loved music, church liturgy and he took an active part in the parish council at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys. He loved to travel and took many trips in his retirement.
We the family would like to thank the staff of the ICU at the CB Regional Hospital as well as Donnie’s dear friend Theresa MacDonald.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, Jan. 31 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Inurnment to follow in St. Theresa’s cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, seating at the church will be limited to the first 40 people. Proof of full vaccination and masks are required.
