It is with broken hearts, we announce the sudden and unexpected loss of Edward Valentine MacDonald, 83, on August 8, 2021 at the QEII hospital in Halifax. Born in Sydney on February 14, 1938, he lived the greater part of his life in East Bay.
The majority of his years were spent working for his father in logging and lumbering. He loved Scottish music and enjoyed going to concerts and listening to Donnie Campbell’s Celtic Serenade. He was a quiet, gentle man who loved the outdoors, animals, especially horses and harness racing. He loved baseball and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had fond memories of hunting trips to Northern Alberta with his son Darryl and his brother-in-law John MacKenzie and “the boys”
Special thanks to his “Brothers in Spirit” Donald MacNeil, Big Pond and cousin Donnie MacDonald, Brickyard Rd. for all their help and companionship over the years. They enjoyed reminiscing about old times together.
He had great faith and trust in his Creator and is now at peace with his loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Imelda (MacKenzie) MacDonald. Very proud father of his son Darryl, Edmonton, and daughter Christa (Pat) Skinner, Richmond, ON. Continually amazed and delighted by his two gems, grandchildren Abigail and Ryan Skinner.
He is survived by his brothers; Jim (Judy) MacDonald, Port Severn, ON, and John (late Maureen) Burlington, ON, sisters; Lucene MacIntyre, Sydney, Marie Lorway (late Charles), Halifax, Joan (Gordon) Sutherland, Sydney and Rita (Larry) Bozohora, Calgary.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Allan Joseph and Christina (Gillis) MacDonald, also his brother Michael, in-laws Archie and Jessie (MacMullin) MacKenzie, and many aunts and uncles.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday August 16 at St. Mary’s East Bay, 10 am with Father Anthony O’Connor officiating, with interment following service. The service will be livestreamed for those who wish to join the family virtually. Maximum seating is 65 due to Covid restrictions, Donations in Edward’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Cemetery fund or charity of choice.
He will always be cherished in our hearts.
