It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Ann Benoit announces her passing on August 9, 2021 at the age of 93. The daughter of Peter Campbell and Anne (MacDonald) Campbell, Elizabeth is survived by her son Jacques, her daughter-in-law Camille Collett, and her grandson, Elijah, and was pre-deceased by her sister, Mary Boudreau and brother, John Campbell.
Betty – as friends knew her – worked at hospitals in Halifax and Montreal before returning home where she worked as the Head Dietitian at the City Hospital in Sydney for over 25 years. She also helped plan the Food Service Department for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Both at her job and outside of the workplace, she was always learning. She studied geology, history, art, genealogy, literature and psychology while also pursuing painting, sculpture, writing, fiddling, leather work and making stained glass pieces. Her interest in new things extended to travel in trips to the United States, Europe and South America.
A devoted mother and daughter, she was always there to help, to advise and to listen. She enjoyed time with friends and family at home and at her cottage overlooking the Bras D’Or Lakes. In nature, she found beauty and solace, surrounding herself with her favorite trees and flowers. For the same reasons, she made sure her world was full of the art she collected over the decades.
Funeral mass will take place at 10:00, August 16 at Sacred Heart Church in Johnstown with Fr. Yakes officiating.
