Francis Xavier "Frank" Sampson

It is with peaceful sadness that we announce that Francis Xavier Sampson passed away Monday evening, December 3, 2007 at his home in Big Pond.

Those who knew him will remember him for his selflessness, humor and gentle soul.

“Big Sampy” as he became known to many, was a devoted volunteer with Celtic Colors and the East Coast Music Association. Frank enjoyed deep friendships with many of the artists he met along the way.

He was a proud member of the Big Pond Volunteer Fire Department, having served as Chief for some time and he was an alumnus of Xavier College in Sydney.

Frank was a faithful husband to his wife of 36 years, Florence Ley and a tender and loving father to daughter, Amy (Ben Young) and son, Gordon (Helen Musial). He cherished the time spent with his granddaughter, Amelie, his pride and joy.

He is predeceased by his mother, Cecelia (MacKinnon) and by his father, Louis.

He is survived by sisters, Yvonne (Mike) Bonaparte and Cecelia (Hugh) Morgan and by brother, Robert (Joanie).

Visitation for Mr. Sampson will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, December 7 at 2:00 pm. in St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating.

Interment in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the VON , the Palliative Care Society or to a charity of choice.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Fr. Joe Gillis for his love and guidance and also to the nurses for their kindness and outstanding compassion and care.

God saw you getting tired

and a cure was not to be.

So he put His arms around

you and whispered “come to me.’”

With tearful eyes we watched you,

and saw you pass away.

Although we loved you dearly,

we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating

hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us,

He only takes the best.
