We were blessed with 89 years of her love and guidance. Helen Theresa Boone of Northside East Bay, N.S. passed away peacefully February 6, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She was born November 3, 1930 in Colliers, Newfoundland to the late John and Mary Bridget Whelan. Her green thumb was the envy of many of us, as she tended her gardens faithfully. Something was always in bloom at the Boone household. How she did it, we will never know but the house was always filled with the smell of the best homemade bread…EVER. Ask anyone.

A master at time management, when asked how she managed with twelve children, she replied “One takes up all your time. Twelve can’t do more than that’. Mom didn’t let raising 12 children get in the way of having a good time. Many memorable moments with friends were filled with music and dancing, or a good game of cards, while her quick wit filled the room with laughter.

A stronger woman we have never known. It was a strength borne of her faith in family and the inherent goodness of all. Most importantly, this strength was supported by her faith in God and the peace that His presence lent to her life. She was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Parish in East Bay.

Left with their memories of Helen are her loving husband of 66 years, Terence W. Boone and her children: Keith (Darlene – deceased), Terence, Susan, Kevin, Brian, Daniel, Robert (Joanne), Karen (Darren), Gerilyn (Blair), Celia, and Mary Ellen. Also missing her laughter and spirit are her 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Greeting her upon arrival are her parents, Mary and John Whelan and son Gordon; her grandchildren Michelle and Nathan; siblings, Matthew, Sister Gladys, Lawrence, Aloysius, James, Michael, Francis, Genevieve, Gerard, and several nieces and nephews – all gone too soon.

Visitation will be at the TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, Sydney on Monday Feb 10th from 2:00PM - 4:00PM & 7:00PM – 9:00PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in East Bay on Tuesday Feb 11th at 11:00AM with Fr. Albert Maroun officiating. Reception to follow at the East Bay Fire Hall after the service at 12:00PM. Interment will take place in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.TWCurry.com for the Boone family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the CBRH Palliative Care Centre or the Red Cross.

Dear Terry and family,

When I think of your mom and dad together I see them happily dancing in the gym at the East Bay Junior High. We used to take my mom with us to the dances in those days, must have been the late 70s.
It’s a gift to read your wonderful memories shared about your mom. She was an amazing lady for sure! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you journey through your mom’s passing. She was blessed with a long life and surrounded by so much love. Surely heaven receives a bright light of love as Helen is welcomed home. God bless you all!
Love, hugs and prayers, Viola and Ivan Doncaster

So many great memories from our visits to East bay , Cape Breton to spend a few days with Helen and Terry and Family !! What a wonderful place to visit, the food (homemade bread ...spaghetti, everything Helen cooked was delicious) , music , "rip roarin' " card games , happy children , and our boys always fit right in !They would gather around the big fireplace and cook hotdogs !! Taking the shortcut and drive across the Sand Bar is something we remember . It was a "cool" spot on a cold winters day , always took my sweater with me !! LOL Hugs to you all . Kitty
