It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward MacArthur. Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Christina MacArthur (MacNeil) ofGlace Bay and John Ambrose MacArthur of Grand Mira. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Emily (Aucoin), son Keith (Patricia) Bedford, daughter Michelle (Jeff) Hammonds Plains, four grandchildren Kiev, Jonah, Rowan and Maria and brother and sister-in-law Michael and Linda Aucoin. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded by his two brothers, Freddie and Dougie of Toronto and survived by his two sister-in-laws Rita and Linda and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim will be missed by his lifelong friends and neighbors in the Ashby area. Jim attended St. Francis Xavier University in Sydney before spending most of his career working for the Province of Nova Scotia supporting the community in various roles with Housing and Community Services. He lived his life taking care of his community, family and friends, a role carried on from his devoted mother who gave endlessly and fiercely protected the ones she loved, raising three boys as a single mother. He had a quiet strength and a huge heart that all who knew him had the honour of experiencing. Jim had a strong faith in God and served St. Theresa’s parish in various roles during his life.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, April 14 from 2-5 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, April 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, 381 Whitney Ave., Sydney with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating.
