Jessie Columba Donovan, age 97, of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility formerly of Prince Street passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the residence.
Born in Iona, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Elizabeth (MacNeil) MacKinnon.
She was a member of St. Theresa’s parish and a long time member of the parish CWL. Jessie owned and operated Jessie’s Dairy on Upper Prince for several years and also in retail at McCurdy’s Ltd. Family life, entertaining friends at home and in Ingonish were at the core of Jessie’s life.
She is survived by her daughter Anne Marie (Barry) MacDonald, Seaforth, NS; son Amos, Sydney; sister Catherine ‘Caddy’ Donovan and a daughter-in-law Jeannie (Murdock) MacNeil of North Sydney. Also surviving are grandchildren Carla (Brad) Layes, Melanie (Justin), Shannon (Troy), Judith and great grandchildren Scott, Liam, Rebecca and Lauren and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Jessie was predeceased by her husband Cecil in 1990, her son Joseph in 1984, sisters Kay MacKinnon, Mabel Martin, Florence MacKenzie-Norton, Jean MacKinnon, brother Murdock and most recently her daughter-in-law Maureen.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Donovan. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, October 28, 2016 at St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
