

John Fraser MacIntyre SydneyJohn Fraser MacIntyre of 36 Churchill Drive., Sydney, died peacefully Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Born on May 30, 1919, John was the loving son of the late Angus and Mary (MacLean) MacIntryre.John’s devotion to his family and his career as a police officer were evident to all who knew him. He worked for 42 years for the City of Sydney Police Department where he rose through the ranks to become Chief of Police retiring in 1984. He was a lifetime member of the Nova Scotia, Maritime Chiefs of Police Associations. He served on various committees of these organizations and was president of the Nova Scotia and Maritime Chiefs of Police Associations. He was a member of the board of directors of the Sydney Credit Union. He co-chaired the building fund for St. Anthony Daniel Church and as a member of the Cemetery Committee was instrumental in securing the land for the present Resurrection Cemetery. He is survived by his daughters Marcella MacPhail (Walter), Sydney River; Sharon (Dr. Robert) Francis, Toronto, ON ; Mary Cheryl (Roderick) Berry, Calgary, Alta; and his son Angus (Mary Evelyn) MacIntyre, Dartmouth. ‘Big Dad’ is survived by his 10 loving grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and dad’s first great great grandchild, Lila. Also surviving John is his sister Kay O’Handley and his brothers Duncan MacIntyre and Martin (Aggie) MacIntyre. He was predeceased by his wife Chris (MacKinnon); daughter Maureen Delores; grandson John MacIntyre; twin brother Donald MacIntyre and sisters Anne Campbell and Maisie Cook and Marcella MacIntyre. Sincere gratitude to Dad’s angels, Jennifer, Ana and Ruth.Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Daniel Church.
