We regret to announce the passing of Joseph (Joe) Prosper Ozon on Friday, 2 April, just two weeks shy of his 93rd birthday. He is survived by his children Mary, Andre (Heather), Annette (Mike) MacEachern, and Sue, his grandson Andrew, brother Eugene (Jane) Ozon, and many nieces and nephews, by whom he was much beloved. He was predeceased by his wife, Marg; by his parents, Beatrice and Louis Ozon; and by his sisters, Laura Taaffe and Marguerite Ozon, and brothers, Edward and Robert.

Born in St. George’s, Newfoundland, to Beatrice and Louis Ozon, Joe spent his younger years in St. George’s, Newfoundland and in St. Pierre et Miquelon, the home of the Ozons. Both Newfoundland and St. Pierre gave Joe a foundation built on the importance of family, devotion to God, a love of the good things in life, and the love of hearing and/or telling a great story. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Montreal Canadiens, and loved golfing. He was especially proud of his only grandson, Andrew.

As a young man, Joe worked for Canada Customs. After starting out in Corner Brook, he was stationed in Gander dealing with transatlantic flights, and later he worked on the Ernest Harmon US Air Force Base in Stephenville, NL, where he met Margaret Delaney, whom he married in 1957. Joe and Marg moved to Sydney in 1970, raising their family in the South End. They had 60 happy years together until Marg’s passing in 2018.

Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who provided such good care to Joe over the years. Donations in Joe’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

“Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.”

A private family funeral will be held. For those wishing to attend virtually, the service will be livestreamed via TW Curry’s Facebook Page starting at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 7. I wish to forward our condolences to the Ozon family. You lost a Great Dad and we all lost a wonderful friend. I never tired listening to the stories of his days in Newfoundland, Stevensville and his earliest days at the Sydney office. All the custom parties at my home and at others and even the party where he danced on the table. He and Marg were the perfect couple. It is comforting to think of them together again. We, AnnMarie and I and all others who new Joe are better people for this opportunity/pleasure.

God Bless

Annette, Mike and family;
Mom (Isabel) and I were sad to see your Dad's obituary. But it did bring back happy memories of Dad (Herb) golfing at Seaview with his good buddies Joe, Bill Bungay and Hughie MacMullin. Maybe now they are all sharing stories from their past rounds. No matter how long we have with our Dads it is never easy to let them go, but they are always with us in spirit. When we leave this earth what we have left are memories and your Dad has a long and wonderful legacy.
Sending our prayers and condolences and wishing you all peace and happy memories.
Isabel and Josephine MacGillivary, South Bar

Annette, Mary and family. I was so saddened to learn of your fathers passing. He was such a kind soul with a dry sense of humor. I always enjoyed conversations with him. My prayers go out to you all in your loss.
