RYAN, JOSEPH Schenacadie

It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joe Ryan at the CB Regional Hospital on November 25, 2018.

Born in Sydney on March 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Nathaniel and Victoria (Antle) Ryan.

Joe was a quiet, loving man who always put his family first and always had a joke to be told. He grew up in Whitney Pier and was always a “pier boy” at heart. Joe was a long time employee of Coop Atlantic until his retirement.

Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 61 years Marguerite, his daughter Marlene (Brian) Morrison, son Donnie Ryan, Wendy (Gushue) Ryan, and his sisters Gertie (Jim) Long and Betty MacDonald and sisters in law Mary Ryan and Marie Mackinnon, brother in law Ted Snow. He will also be dearly missed by his loving grandchildren, Ryan, Jordon and Annelise Morrison, Jenna and Kelsey Ryan and great grandchildren Easton and Emmalyn who always brought a smile to his face.

He was predeceased by his brother, Ray Ryan and sisters, Kay Horgan, Rhoda Snow, Carol Scott and Margo Russell. He was also predeceased by his brothers in law Donnie, Hector and Clinton MacNeil, Stephen MacKinnon, Greg MacDonald, Pat Horgan and Jack Scott and sister in law Reynelda MacNeil.

There will no visitation as cremation has taken place, a service will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Friday, November 30th, 2018 at 11:00 am with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. Internment will take place at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of CB or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent by visiting

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be So he put his arms around you and whispered come with me With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away Although we loved you dearly We could not make you stay A loving heart stopped beating Hard working hands at rest God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

My poppy was an exceptional man. I will have him in my heart forever and not a day will go by that I won’t think about him and the precious memories we shared together. It was a gift growing up with him in my life. Everytime I walk the train tracks or skip a stone across the water I know he’ll be right there with me.

Until I see you again poppy, xo

Dear Marguerite,Marlene, Donnie and family: Dave & I offer our deepest sympathy on Joe’s passing. We had the good fortune to have him as a wonderful neighbor for so many years. We will certainly miss seeing him around the property that he took such pride in caring for. We both feel that emptiness in our hearts.
Please don’t hesitate to call us if you need anything.
Sending love and prayers to you all that God will send you strength and comfort at this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. I only knew Joe for a short period of time, but soon realized what a wonderful person that he was. Hold on to all the beautiful memories you have of him, and some day those memories will bring a smile to your faces.
