It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Laura Susan Marshall on Sunday, May 14th, 2023 surrounded by her loving family and friends at the Palliative Care An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born in Sydney, February 22, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Grand Chief Donald Marshall Sr. and Caroline Marshall (Googoo).
Laura was survived by her partner of 37 Years, Wade Bowser, daughter Nevanna Marshall (Ronnie), granddaughter Harmony Marshall, grandson Zamien Marshall. Laura also leaves behind her sisters; Roseanne (Joseph), Josephine (Chris), Virginia, Donna, sister in law Doreen and brothers; David, Terry (Lee Marie), John, Simon (Adrianna) and Stephen (Sheila). Laura will be dearly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her 3 godchildren; Joey Sylvester, Symone Marshall and Erik Kabatay.
Predeceased by her father the late Grand Chief Donald Marshall Sr, mother Caroline Marshall, brothers; Donald Marshall Jr, Pius Marshall, sisters; Donna Gould, Bernice Marshall and Margaret Madeline in infancy, Brother in law Stephen Gould, sisters in Law Terry Lynn Marshall and Denise Marshall and by her godparents Melvin & Margaret Paul. Wade’s parents John Bowser and Bertha Bowser.
Laura worked for the Membertou Education department. Laura enjoyed dropping in on the kids at the Membertou Day Care and Maupeltuewey Kina’matno’kuom. Laura helped organize the Membertou Graduation banquet. On grading day, every child in Membertou was happy to see Laura in her red truck to get their grading day money from Membertou.
Laura enjoyed going to Ziggy’s Pub & Grill in Sydney. Many of her Friends would go to Ziggy’s knowing they would be greeted by Laura. After returning home from Ziggy’s, Laura would spend her evening on the phone calling her daughter, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation for Laura will begin on Saturday, May 20th at 106 Tupsi Drive in Membertou, after 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 22 at 11 am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys church in Sydney, with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Cremation will follow the service. A salitè will be held at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre following the funeral.
