With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Lloyd Augustus Long, who left us on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, at the age of 97. Lloyd was born in Sydney and raised in Whitney Pier, the son of the late John and Kate (Young) Long. Throughout his career, he worked at Thompson & Sutherland’s store, alongside Owen Lewis as a plumber, and later spent the final years of his career at the Coal Piers, Coke Ovens & Steel Plant, from where he retired. While Lloyd never married, he was fortunate to share his life with his companion, Marg Yard, and his beloved dog, Snoopy, both of whom brought him great joy and comfort. Lloyd is survived by his sisters, Ollie Hubert, Joyce Cote, Leona MacNeil, and Colleen Sampson; his brothers, Robert Long, Kenneth Long, and Leo Long; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Shirley Postlewaite and Rose Johnstone, his brothers, Roy (Honey) Long, Wallace Long, Jackie Long, and Arthur Long. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Harbourstone (Mira Bay) for their exceptional care, kindness, and support during this difficult time. A funeral service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, 1135 Victoria Rd, Whitney Pier, on Monday, March 3rd, at 10:00 AM, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. A reception will follow at the Polish Village Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
