It is with profound sadness that the family of Louis Edmund Grosset announces his peaceful passing surrounded by family on August 22, 2023, at the age of 71. Born on May 13/1952, in Sydney, he was the son of the late Roland Grosset and Aleeta Grosset (Foley).
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Heather Grosset (Penny); children, Louis Grosset (Jen), Kari Grosset and Penney Grosset-Morrison ( David Todd). Grandchildren: Nathan Grosset, Chloe Morrison, Jaxson Grosset, Lila Morrison, Samantha Grosset and Emme Grosset, all of which he adored. He will also be dearly missed by his siblings Robert Grosset (Nancy), Barry Grosset, Shirley Best (Kirk) and Keith Grosset (Cynthia), many other relatives, friends and his furry sidekick, Sky.
Louis developed a love for the game of hockey starting at a very young age. He started playing as a young child, through to his high school days, where he was team captain in his graduating year at Riverview High School. He continued playing in many mens leagues and coached hockey for years for the County Minor Hockey Association. Anyone that knew him, knew he was a huge Habs fan and enjoyed watching a good game of hockey with family. Although he was known as a tough guy on the ice, he was a gentle and loving soul to those he knew and had enormous amounts of compassion.
After 30 years, he retired from the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission to devote his extra time with family. After retirement, he was honored to come together with a group of longtime friends and start a scholarship near and dear to his heart in memory of his late hockey coach and Principal, Bob MacKenzie. He was very proud of this scholarship and it has since raised thousands of dollars each year for graduating athletes at RHS. He always talked about how much he enjoyed his coffee meetings with his buddies.
In his spare time, Louis enjoyed spending summers at the drag strip in Sydney and P.E.I with his children, brothers and friends. He loved the enjoyment it brought his boys to drag race and was very proud of them both. He looked forward to his evening drives in his Mustang convertible, hanging out chatting with “The Corner Guys” downtown.
Visitation will take place at T.W Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, August 30,2023 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima, Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11 am with refreshments and snacks to follow downstairs. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. For those unable to attend, the Funeral Mass will be live streamed via TW Curry’s facebook page.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Northside Guest Home for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Memorial donations may be made in Louis Grosset’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
