Betty Doucette, 66 of 5014 Shore Road, Eskasoni, loving wife to the late John Duncan Doucette passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 29th, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, loved by her children and grandchildren.
Born in Boston, Mass,, and Listuguj, Quebec, she was the daughter of late Gerard “Jerry” Martin of Listuguj, Quebec; and the late Emily “Milly” Patles Martin.
She was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni, and Saint Ann’s Church in Listuguj, Quebec.
Betty was a formal historian for her ancestral knowledge which consumed facts, articles and documentations for the past 50 years’ which evolved into a Mi’kma’ki family tree. She loved her camera, pictures, cooking, family tree and culture but was deeply devoted to the Catholic Faith and prayer.
She is survived by 4 daughters Kirby (Michael), Millyanna; Sharon (Rodney), and Miah Young all of Eskasoni, N.S., 2 sons Norman and John Duncan Jr. (Kassidy), 2 stepdaughters Stacy Paul of Eskasoni, N.S. and Sunshine Paul-Martin of Millbrook, N.S., and special daughter Emily Elizabeth., 10 grandchildren Shanelle, Tahnee, Hannah, Jesse James, Dru, John Gerard, Brayce, Elizabeth, Glitter, and John Duncan III; 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother Mark Durby St. George (Holly) of Brewer Maine, 4 sisters Connie Dedam, and Joyce Metallic (Re’ne) of Listuguj, Quebec, Sharon Paul (John Jerome) and Arlene Sylliboy (Norman) of Eskasoni, N.S., and her large and loving extended family, including her god-children Shawn Martin, Robert Paul, Clifford Sylliboy, Mariah Doucette, and Norris Sylliboy,. Auntie Mary Ginnish (George) of Eel Ground, N.B, and Uncle Floyd Metallic Listuguj, Quebec.
Betty was predeceased by sons Joseph, Michael, John Gerard, daughters, Mary, Mariah, and 2 babies, brothers Gary Martin, Joseph Martin, and David Robert (Bugsy) Barnaby, and sister Sharon Martin., and godchild John Duncan Dedam along with many aunties and uncles from her Martin and Patles families whom she loved dearly.
Services and a funeral mass will be celebrated at a later Date and time at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
