Mary C. McKeough

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the death of Mary (Vassallo) McKeough, 87, of Sydney Forks on August 27, 2012.

Born in Sydney, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (MacDonald) Vassallo. Mary was employed with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board from 1976 until her retirement in 1997. She was active in St. Mary’s CWL, East Bay, for over 50 years and a valued member of her community.

Mary is survived by her five children: Bill (Betty), Brian (Joyce Thompson), Donna Axford (Steve), Jean McKeough (Rob Boone) and Joan McKeough (Angie Currie) and her sister Theresa MacLellan, formerly of Ben Eoin. “Nana Keough” is also survived by her grandchildren: Leslie and Daniel Axford and Liam and Erica Boone. Mary will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She will also be fondly remembered for her laughter and love of life.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Dan and four siblings: Carmelita (McKeough), Lawrence, George and Frank.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 pm on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at T.W. Curry’s Funeral Home, George St., Sydney. The funeral celebration will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 30th at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating.
