

77 – Iona
Mary Catherine Murphy, 77 of Iona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Point Tupper September 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Michael Dan and Helen (MacNeil) MacNeil.
She was a member of St. Columba parish, Iona and RCL Branch 124 Grandona. Mary was a loving mother and throughout her married life, followed and supported her husband Roderick’s military career. She was an avid supporter of her community by being involved in many of their local activities. She was very energetic and loved to read. She was well noted for her wonderful homemade shortbreads along with other baked goods. She was well loved and will be sadly missed by her family, her friends and the community.
She is survived by daughters Carol Nigro, Maine; Shelley Murphy, Iona; son, Ronald Murphy, Ottawa; sisters, Marge (Mike) Schad; Diane Morneau (Camille); brothers, Murdock (Sandra) MacNeil; Colin (Eileen) MacNeil and grandchildren Anthony (Tori) and Michael.
She was predeceased by her husband Roderick J., son Blair and brother Donnie.
Visitation for Mary Murphy will take place today (Friday), June 5 from 2- 9 p.m. at St. Columba Church, Iona. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Columba church with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, MacKinnon’s Harbour.
