Born in Sydney on July 24,1936, Mary was the daughter of the late John (Jack) and Mary (Hussey) Neville. She was predeceased by her sister Alice (Neville) Walsh (the late Richard Walsh).
Mary is survived by her sister Isabelle (Neville) MacNeil (the late Roy MacNeil). She is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews: Anne Marie Melnyk (Gregory), Elaine MacNeil (Ken), Brian MacNeil (Joanne), Michael MacNeil (Mary), Colleen Sinclair (Michael), Janice MacMullin (Dean), Ron Walsh (Trish), Sheila MacDonald (Steve), John Walsh (Marie), Catherine Walsh Kelloway (Michael), and Robert Walsh (Kim), as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
Although Mary could not hear or speak, she had a remarkable way of communicating and connecting with others through a unique sign language understood easily within her family. Mary had a great sense of humour. Her presence brought warmth and laughter to every family gathering. Throughout her life, Mary shared a close bond with her sisters - a relationship full of love, shared memories, and an unspoken understanding that transcended words. She especially enjoyed spending time with all her nieces and nephews and will be remembered fondly as a significant part of their lives growing up. Mary had a deep faith and love for God which was evident in her daily life. She was an inspiration to those she met with her gentle spirit, kindness, and how she delighted in the simple joys in life.To her family, Mary was so much more than a daughter, a sister, and an aunt. She was a source of love and joy, whose memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Archibald and the staff of the MacGillivray Guest Home where Mary spent the last number of years. We will always be deeply grateful for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness she received during her time there. We would also like to thank Dr. Fuller and the staff at the Emergency Department of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
