We regret to announce the passing of our dear Aunt, cousin and friend, Monica Aunnciata Paul of Eskasoni, NS, on March 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving nieces and nephews at the Hospice in Sydney, NS.
Our Auntica has made her journey to heaven to be with her parents, and all of her siblings.
Monica was born in Bara Head, NS on March 5, 1941 to the late Nancy (Gould) Paul of Whycocomagh NS and the Late William Paul of Bara Head, NS.
Monica’s talents were many. She was an amazing baker and cook, her sweets and meals will be missed. She would sew and create many things. Monica loved children. She was a second mother to many. She didn’t have any biological children, but she loved and treated us all as if we were her own.
She enjoyed traveling, especially with her late sister, Barbara. They would go for their Sunday drives around Cape Breton Island, to powwows across Nova Scotia and beyond, and camping trips. She made her annual pilgrimages to Ste. Anne de Beaupre’ and to the Mniku in Potlotek. She loved good St. Anne.
Monica is survived by her nieces and nephews, Chrisma Denny, Auriel Paul, Michael R. Denny, Sulian Denny, Wanda Julian, Audianna Julian, Darren Paul, Squanto Oakley, Nancy Oakley, Nancy Paul, Colleen Paul, Lesley Paul, Beverly Googoo, Marjorie Pierro, Nancy Martin, Carol Googoo, Natasha Kakepetum, Reggie Poulette, Thomas Poulette, and many great, and great great nieces and nephews. Also by her brother in law, Ellsworth ‘Al’ Oakley.
She is predeceased by her siblings: Cyril Paul, Pauline Poulette, Gladys Googoo, Caroline Oakley, Annie Mae Paul, Joseph ‘Vinny’ Paul and Barbara Denny. In infancy: Stephen Joseph, Helen, Joseph Vincent, Josephine, Joseph Henry and William Francis.
Visitation for the Late Monica Paul will begin at 7pm on Tuesday, March 14, at the Elders Centre, on 19 Medicine Trail in Eskasoni. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday, March 16, at the Holy Family Parish Church in Eskasoni with Fr. Antolin Astor officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
