Olga Dunphy (nee Malowany), Sydney, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023, two weeks short of her 95th birthday. A resident The Cove Guest Home for 16 years, Olga was born in Whitney Pier on July 7, 1928, to the late Ivan and Mary (Boychuk) Malowany, the second youngest of 10 brothers and sisters. She married the late Edward A. Dunphy in 1949. They moved to the U.S. in 1955, eventually settling in Lorain, Ohio, where they raised three sons. Eddie and Olga returned to Cape Breton permanently in 1988, initially settling in Irish Cove before moving back to Sydney. Olga was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook (she made the best pierogi), and the smoothest ice skater anyone had seen, but her greatest joy was being around and taking care of children, including her own, her grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews over the years. Predeceased by her loving husband, Edward (2008), and oldest son, David (2019), she is survived by daughter-in-law Peggy of Florida, sons Lawrence (Maureen) of Lorain, Ohio, and Patrick (Cheryl) of Broadview Heights, Ohio, plus seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and close family friend, Audrey MacIntyre. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Friday, July 7, at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish, Fr. Burke officiating, with a private burial to follow. Please note that masks are required in the church. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity in Olga's memory. Online condolences and memories may be sent to the family by visiting www.twcurry.com.
