It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, godmother, and dear friend, Rhodena Stevens, on June 27, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 4, 1953, to the late Benedict and Margaret (Denny) Stevens, Rhodena lived a life rooted in compassion, faith, and service.
Rhodena devoted many years of her life to caregiving as a Continuing Care Assistant, a role in which she brought comfort, dignity, and kindness to those in need. After retiring, she remained dedicated to caring for others through her powerful gift of prayer. A woman of unwavering faith, Rhodena devoted her life to God and Mi'kmaw prayer traditions. She was often called upon to lead prayers at wakes and funerals, offering spiritual guidance and comfort to families during their most difficult times.
Her spiritual journey took her far and wide—from St. Anne’s Mission in Chapel Island, to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in Quebec, and even to Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of her proudest affiliations was being an Associate of the Sisters of St. Martha, a role she cherished deeply.
Rhodena also found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved visiting with family and friends, singing, dancing, and sharing in good music and laughter. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting imprint on all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving children: Gail (Norman), Marcia (Andrew), and Aaron (Nadine); her cherished grandchildren: Willis (Skye), Jody, Trista (Jack), Storm, Jacklyn, Sherman, Brandon, Kay, Trey, Benson, and Jada; and her great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings: Angela, Robert (Audrey), Elizabeth, Beverly, Darren (Gail), Jacqueline and Richard, sisters-in-law Jeannie, Arlene, Rita; as well as her godchildren: Jill, Dillan, Chad, and Sean.
In addition to her parents, Rhodena was predeceased by her siblings: Clifford, Arnold, Beverly Ann, Marcia, Sheila, Kevin, Spencer, Shirley, and Gerry; and by her godparents: Levi Denny and Virginia Googoo. Rhodena’s legacy is one of deep faith, loving service, and joyful spirit. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will take place at the Gabriel Center, 50 Gabriel St., Eskasoni, beginning Sunday July 6, 2025 at 7:00 pm until the funeral mass on Tuesday July 8, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Holy Family Parish. Fr. Antolin Asor to officiate with a graveside service at Holy Family Parish Cemetery with Salité to follow.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Kiknu Nursing Home for the amazing care that they provided and the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, 4E for their care during her final days.
