Robert Manship

Robert "Bob" Bliss Manship, 88, of Sydney, NS passed away peacefully on Tuesday night, February 5, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Glasgow on August 12, 1930, he was the son of Charles Albert and Doris Lillian (McKennie) Manship. Robert grew up in Antigonish and after completing high school and a year at St. F.X. University he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force for a time but his passion for radio led him to a career in broadcasting. He worked at many radio stations including CJFX in Antigonish and CBC, CJCB and CHER in Sydney. Robert's passion for electronics was prevalent throughout his life. He was a ham radio operator and had several life-long buddies who shared his interest. His deep appreciation of music, art, language, travel and all things humorous resulted in his developing a unique personality. Children and pets especially enjoyed his affection. He will be sadly missed by his former wife, Dorothy; children, Norma (Stephen), Nancy (Floyd), Brian (Kelly), Susan (Gerald) and James; grandchildren, Brian (Michelle), Brandon (Cheryl), and Maria Talbot, Karen (William), Gordon and Alice (Doug) Mills, Jessica (Mohit) Coiffi, John (Robyn) and Allison (Andrew) Manship and great-grandson, Isaac Meister. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Doris Manship; also, by his second wife, Mary (MacNeil) of Sydney. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 8 at 2 p.m. in the Great Room at Kenwood Hall at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. A special thank you goes out to the wonderful staff at Harbourstone, the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and also to T.W.
